Dr. Lars Ericson joined IARPA in June of 2018. In his current assignment as a Program Manager, Dr. Ericson focuses on areas of scientific research that includes advanced materials, biometrics, computer vision, facial recognition, nanotechnology, and novel sensors. He is presently leading IARPA's efforts on the BRIAR program that aims to advance whole-body and facial recognition at long-range and from elevated platforms. He also manages the Odin program that aims to develop biometric presentation attack detection technologies.
Prior to joining IARPA, Dr. Ericson worked in industry at SAIC from 2015 to 2018 where he served as a Principal Scientist supporting IARPA as a biometrics subject matter expert. In addition, he was formerly with ManTech International Corporation where he served as the Director of the National Institute of Justice Sensors, Surveillance, and Biometric Technologies Center of Excellence from 2010 to 2015. In his early research career, Dr. Ericson pursued basic and applied research in the field of nanotechnology, exploring novel materials and sensors at the Naval Research Laboratory.
Dr. Ericson graduated from Rice University in 2004 with a Ph.D. in applied physics. Prior, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in physics from Gustavus Adolphus College (MN) in 1997.
Dr. Ericson is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).
