On August 12, the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA-RFI-15-03) posted the following Request for Information (RFI): Forecasting Rare Events. Responses to this RFI are due via email no later than 4:00pm, Eastern Time, on September 18, 2015.

Jason Matheny, director of the Office for Anticipating Surprise at the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity, has been appointed IARPA director in a move that takes effect immediately.

Jason Matheny has been named director of the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity, according a release from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. Matheny had been serving as director of IARPA’s new Office for Anticipating Surprise, overseeing research efforts to develop new capabilities for a range of events relevant to national security.

In an Aug. 3 press release, Clapper said Matheny “brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position,” and that he is “confident” in Matheny’s abilities.
